TIME Magazine to Remove Digital Paywall from June 1

Axios has reported that Time will be fully removing its digital paywall, which has been available since 2011, from the 1st of June, 2023.

The CEO of Time, Jessica Sibley, stated that this decision is both an editorial and a business decision.

“The opportunity to reach more audiences globally, that are younger, and that are diverse, is really important to Sam and myself,” she said, referencing Sam Jacobs, the editor-in-chief of Time.

She said that Times has plans in motion to produce more ad-supported, digital content that will live on its website, its mobile app and across social media.

The removal of the digital paywall from the website of Time, which turned 100 in March and currently has 1.3 million print subscribers and 250,000 digital subscribers, will now provide free content from Time’s magazine and website, alongside 100 years’ worth of archived content.

However, the company will still charge for the print products, as well as offer a paid digital version of the print magazine through retailers.

Paid subscribers will be notified of the changes, and their subscriptions will expire as soon as the paywall is removed on June 1st.
