 Osimhen Becomes Highest Scoring African in Serie A, Breaks George Weah’s Record 

After scoring the game-winning goal in Napoli’s 1-0 victory against Fiorentina on Sunday, Victor Osimhen, a striker for the Super Eagles of Nigeria, established the record for the best scoring African player in Italian Serie A history.

The 24-year-old resumed his exploits against ‘Fiorentina at the Diego Maradona Stadium where his team celebrated being named champions last week after leading Napoli to its first Serie A victory.

The title-winning equalizer for Napoli against Udinese on Thursdaycame from Osimhen in the 52nd minute.

The Nigerian international has broken Samuel Eto’o’s previous record for the most goals scored by an African player in a Serie A season.

Before successfully defeating Fiorentina goalkeeper Pietro Terracciano in the second attempt in the 74th minute, Osimhen missed a penalty in the 48th minute.

After scoring an equalizer for the Azzurri in their 1-1 draw with Udinese on Thursday, which helped Napoli win their first Serie A championship in 33 years, he also extended his record for the Most Goals Scored by an African Player in a Single Serie A Season.
